First year primary students are working on the breakdown of numbers from one to ten as a sum of two mathematical additions. In the first place this activity is carried out in a physical and visual way, offering a wide variety of items for the children to handle (bottle caps, sticks, ludo pieces, blue boxes, clay etc..). Subsequently, when they have internalized this, they have to put it in writing.
They have a lot of fun doing these activities and we enjoy watching how these simple materials offer them so many educational opportunities. They are so young and yet they already know what the commutative property of addition is!
