An ex-pupil from the Centre and now already an International Grandmaster, José Miguel Fernández García claimed victory in the XIV International Chess Open at LAUDE El Altillo School after obtaining 8 points in the 9 games played, with 7 wins and 2 stalemates and he therefore repeats the victory he claimed three years ago. Second place was given to the Cuban International Grandmaster Roberto Carlos Gómez Ledo and third place to the current Champion in Andalusia and Grandmaster of the International Federation, Francisco Javier Cruz Ravina.
140 chess players participated in this prestigious International Chess Open, in which both school and the professional chess players met each other in the same tournament. Year after year, it has established itself as the best Andalusian rapid chess tournament, often highlighted in red in the participants’ schedules.
On this occasion, seven International grandmasters participated and there was good representation from all clubs in the province, as well as Malaga, Seville, Gibraltar and of course the LAUDE El Altillo School Chess Club, from which Fernando Martin Laá was claimed winner.
