The master of the International Chess Federation, Ismael Alshameary, was proclaimed winner of the XVI Chess Open International “LAUDE El Altillo School”,held last Saturday 17th March.
In the sixteenth edition of this prestigious Chess Open International, where school and professional chess are united in the same tournament, 179 players participated, which is a record in a tournament in Cádiz and which has become consolidated as one of the best Andalusian tournaments of fast chess, a date marked in red by any fan of this sport.
On this occasion, seven International Masters have taken part, as well as a great representation from all the clubs in the province, apart from Seville and Malaga, Cádiz university and of course the LAUDE El Altillo School Chess Club, from which 20 pupils took part and the winner was Berta Fernández Monreal.
It was held in LAUDE El Altillo School in Jerez and the tournament was played in nine rounds of twelve minutes plus three seconds for each player and game, within a timetable from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm, with an hour and a half break for lunch in the school dining room.
This XVI Chess Open continues its work of developing and broadcasting this educational sport, since LAUDE El Altillo School is pioneer in Andalusia and one of the first at national level and which has fully introduced chess into its academic programme owing to improvement in cognitive and learning abilities for all those pupils who practice it.
